Types of Heat Pump Collectors

H

There are several different types of collector which can take energy from the ground, air, water or a combination of these.  The heat pump that is connected to the collector is the same in each case.  For an explanation of the technology behind our hi-tech heat pumps click here.

Ideally the pipe matrix need to be buried at least 1.5 metres below the surface.  At this depth the temperature remains almost constant at about 15C throughout the year.  The heat pump draws from this free source of energy.  The pipes can be buried in an area as shown above or coiled in trenches.  If there is a body of water close by this can be used in a similar way.

The Energy Fence type collector is a lattice of pipes woven into a fence-like structure.  This negates the need for extensive ground-works which are required for ground-source collectors.  The collector temperature will vary more throughout the course of the year, but this is compensated for by using a larger collector.
